Support Article: What is a Twain
data source?
Introduction
Beginning with version 6 of the Agency Advantage the imaging options can be used
with All TWAIN compatible scanners. This means that any scanner that says “TWAIN
Compatible” on the box should function properly with the Agency Advantage software.
Setting up a TWAIN data source
Twain is an open public scanning interface developed by a coalition of imaging hardware
and software manufacturers.
The need to close software in order to scan an image is eliminated. TWAIN is a specification
for scanner communication that enables applications to "ACQUIRE IMAGES"
directly. In order for these programs to recognize a scanner the TWAIN data source
must be loaded for the appropriate scanner. The easiest way to tell if a scanner
has its TWAIN data source loaded is to go to the Windows Imaging software and press
the select scanner button. If your scanner shows up as one of the scanner choices
then the TWAIN data source has been loaded. If your scanner does not appear then
it is recommended that you refer to the installation instructions for your scanner
to install the TWAIN data source .
Helpful Information on HP Scanners
Many of the newer HP scanners such as the 4100, 5100, 6250C, and HP4P HP require
installation of the HP scanning software. DeskScan II software v.1.51 or later,
HP PicturePlace, or HP PictureScan must be installed on the system so that Twain
compliant applications can call the HP software as the "ACQUIRING SOURCE"
to do the scanning directly into their application.
